Ellyn Maybe

TO MY GRANDMA ON HER 90TH BIRTHDAY

My grandma is a mensch in a world gone farklempt.
She’s learned some Czech words.
Some Spanish words.
Many unconditionally sweet words.
She’s a webtv wiz.
My fellow night owl.
She loves musicals.
Respect is on a first name basis with her.
When you leave her after conversation, you feel better.
She’s been a sanctuary for this bird of tie-dyed feathers.
Unconditional love is not available on eBay.
In a world full of gadgets galore, the simple things are the most elusive.
Lucky when you have a grandma you’d pick for a friend every day
of the week.
Tolerant and caring about all the big and little questions life asks.
This left-handed poet is not an easy listening station on the radio
kind of granddaughter.
Yet my grandma never fails to hear the music.
We are all made of music.
As sure as we are molecules and bones.
Though many lack sheet music and a piano tuned to our key.
Unconditional love is the song played by the worlds greatest virtuoso’s.
My grandma is one.
Grandmothers rock πŸ™‚
Much love, ellyn
